McKenzie

McKenzie was left in an abandoned baseball park  on a hot summer day. It was unclear how long she had been there when someone found her, dehydrated, barely moving and terrified. She was brought to the rescue and given what she needed, including love. She was matted and hated to be touched on her back, but after some time, she learned to trust us.

She was adopted in September 2024 and now lives happily in Greenbay, swimming in lakes and getting cuddles every night.

Rocky

Rocky was left in a kill shelter in Abilene, Texas. He had a few days left before he was schedule to be euthanized when I called looking for a different dog that was taken there (Molly, see below). The shelter worker told me that Rocky and Molly had become really good friends and would we be able to take them both, otherwise he has no chance. Rocky made his way up to us that day.

Rocky was adopted on December 2024 and now get to wear sweaters, swim in the lake and have no fear of ever having only a few days left to live.

Molly

Molly was used as target practice for a BB gun and made her escape to another farm down in Texas. A lady who lived there reached out and told me that she was hurt and can we help. I said yes, but the woman decided to send her to a shelter instead before I could pick her up. I found her (and her new boyfriend, Rocky shown above), and had her moved from the shelter up to us where we nursed her wounds.

Molly was adopted in March of 2025 and lives with her new friend Duke and her very happy family

Burt, aka, Conrad

Burt was found with the side of his neck bitten off. The woman who found him was worried he would have to be humanely euthanized, but I told her that we can try and see if we can help him first.  The amazing vets did their magic and Burt was cleaned, sutured and healed. He was adopted out in May of 2025 and now lives with his friend Pilot, a Belgian Malinoise, and his new mom. He gets to go on walks, threaten the birds through a window and sleep all day on a couch.

Olive

Olive was rescued by a kind neighbor who noticed that she lived in severe neglect. The neighbor contacted me and asked if we could help. Seeing the state of her existence, I said yes. Olive made her way up here with some previous trauma of a shock collar that was embedded in her hair on her neck and severe separation anxiety. However, she was pampered by her foster mom until she found her new home with two young ladies and their parents who spoil her rotten.

Peanut and Penelope

Peanut and Penelope were stray dogs trying to survive on the streets in Lubbock, TX. Two college girls found them and spent a month earning their trust before they were able to bring them inside. We were called for help and brought them up to Wisconsin to the rescue. They were very timid but curious about their new surroundings and eventually became cuddle monsters.

They were adopted out as a pair in August 2025 to their new parents and friends including a toad, a turtle, a ferret and a parrot.

Goose and Maverick

Goose and Maverick were found on the side of the road. Maverick had been hit by a car and suffered from a broken jaw and pelvis, disallowing him to eat. Goose stayed by his side, both starving. Today, they are still together and will never have to worry about being abandoned or alone again.

Uno

Uno was wandering around the streets of Littlefield, Texas when he was found. An older man with nowhere to go, he became part of DW R&R and immediately demonstrated his sweet, people oriented nature at his foster home.

He was adopted by a wonderful family and now has two young boys to play with all the time, never being alone.

Lucky

Lucky was not so lucky throughout his life, but hit the jackpot at the end. He was used for breeding for 8 years and kept in a cage to do so. He was then adopted by someone who was unable care for him requiring removal from the home before he was put down. He was taken in by DW R&R and then adopted by this incredible family who have doted on him paw to paw. Lucky sure lived up his name.

Indie

Indie was a stray picked up in Littlefield, TX. She was pregnant and gave birth in a kill shelter. All her puppies were adopted out, but she was left behind. And she was feral. She would not come inside, come up to anyone, lived in an outside doghouse staying as far away from anyone as she could. Until she came up to DW R&R and worked with one of our behaviorists, Sarah Miller. Indie bloomed and became the dog you see here.
Sarah fell in love and made Indie part of her own personal pack. With time and patience, Indie has realized that life isn't so bad after all and is loved everyday.

Ruby

Ruby was found as a stray and taken in by a wonderful woman as a foster and DW was contacted to help. Not long after, Ruby started to show signs of Parvo. She was taken to the vet immediately and fundraising was done to help with the expensive bill. Ruby was given a 50/50 chance of survival, but survive she did and now she is thriving with her new mom.

Chase

Chase was a dog that was part of a hoarding case in Texas and needed to be re-homed. I posted him for help and a wonderful family met him through FaceTime and fell in love. He was transported up here and placed in his new home where he was spoiled rotten from day one. Chase is now an only dog and loving life with his new family.
